Elections Website Redesign in Preparation for the 2024 Presidential Election
Project Purpose and Problem
The Elections Division required a modernized website to provide timely and relevant information during election cycles, particularly during high-traffic years like presidential elections. The legacy site was riddled with inconsistencies, redundancies, and poor mobile compatibility, making it difficult for users to find relevant information. Maintaining the site became burdensome for both election and IT staff, since updates often required time-consuming coordination via email. Additionally, the site’s content organization did not cater effectively to target audiences, further complicating its usability.
Solutions and Key Features
The redesigned elections website prioritized clarity, usability, and autonomy for the Elections Team. The content was reorganized for the target audience (e.g., proximity-based voting locations and user-specific calendar events) and migrated to a content management system (CMS) to enable independent updates. A mobile-first, performance-driven design improved accessibility and usability for a wider audience and training for the Elections Team reduced reliance on IT support.
